Team Awards:
Congratulations to the Oxnard High 2005 - 2006 Academic
Decathlon Team! Scoring higher than any team in the history of
Oxnard, scoring higher than any team in the history of the
entire Oxnard Union High School District, our 27 students
competed alongside 250 students from around the county, as well
as against the national champs from Moorpark and, staying right
on Moorpark's heels, we locked in a solid second place in every
single one of the 10 divisions county-wide, shutting out all
other schools in the county for any second place awards. As
featured in the Ventura County Star, county wide, our A-Team
tied for first place with Moorpark in the Super Quiz Relay, and
came in second place overall in the county. Our B-Team also
came in second place against Moorpark, and our C-Team scored
first place against all other C-Teams in the county competition!
Congratulations to all the Aca Deca competitors for a great job
- second in county and undisputed chapmions in the district,
laying waste to Hueneme, Rio Mesa, Channel Islands, Pacifica,
and Camarillo! Great job team! (More to come on individual
awards scored by our decathletes ...) GO OXNARD!!!
More Amazing Statistics....
The top 6 scores among all 26 competing teams!
Moorpark A 49,280
Oxnard A 43,076
Westlake A 35,556
Moorpark B 35,394
Thousand Oaks A 34,370
Oxnard B 33,128
Wow! Oxnard's B-Team was sixth in county!!! (Oxnard C-Team was
at 24,804 - ahead of the next C-Team at 24,223 - so a close
call!) And Oxnard's A-Team was 6,000 points away from
Moorpark... but 8,000 points ahead of Westlake! Niiiice!
Team Awards -
B-Team placed 2nd out of all 26 teams in Speech!
B-Team placed 3rd out of all 26 teams in Art!
Way to go B-Team!!!!
A-Team placed 3rd out of all 26 teams in Speech (heh, heh -
B-team snuck it out from 'em!)
A-Team also placed 3rd out of all 26 teams in Math (Moorpark's
B-Team placed 2nd)
and... swept the rest of the subjects with 2nd place
right behind Moorpark's A-team in: Essay, Interview, Language
and Lit., Music, Econ., Art, and Science! Way to go A-Team!!!
Overall A-Team won the 2nd place trophy for Superquiz.
A-Team and B-Team each took the 2nd place for their respective
divisions - Red and Blue! Even C-Team, when stacked up with the
other C-Teams came in 1st place!

COMMENTARY:
The good news is obvious: we are
awesome! Thanks so much to Moorpark, Mr. McCrory and Mr. Conte
for the work they put in to help us!
We swept second place royally! Team scores ran as follows:
A-Teams:
1st - Moorpark 49,280
2nd - Oxnard 43,076
3rd Westlake 35,556
As you can see - our A-Team was definitely closer to Moorpark (a
mere 5 questions per person per test). Then an 8,000 point drop
to third place and the rest of the 26 teams fall behind that...
B-Teams
1st - Moorpark 35,556
2nd - Oxnard 33,128
3rd - Westlake 30, 416
in other words, our B-Team scored 6th place over ALL in county,
regardless of division! And our C-Team even amped up the
victory with a first place-ranking among C-Teams!
1st (among C-Teams) - Oxnard 24,804
2nd - Newberry Park 24,223
3rd - Westlake 16,375
That's awesome news.
Another untrophied triumph: On
the A-Team, Patrick didn't have a single ranking below 8 (his
lowest)! Theresa and Dylan tied next in the rankings game with
their lowest rankings at an 11!
Here's the breakdown of the Team Medals!
And now for the impressive Medal Compendium! Congratulations
to the Oxnard High School Decathletes who scored an
unprecedented total of 49 individual medals in this year's
competition. And congratulations to our teams who shot to
the top of the District with three first place positions for
A, B, and C Teams! County-wide, out of 26 competing teams,
our B-Teams scored a third-place victory in Art and a second
place victory in Speech. Our A-Team scored a third place
victory right behind our very own B-team in Speech, and then
ran a complete second-place domination of all other county
teams in all nine other competetive areas: Essay, Interview,
Math, Literature, Music, Economic, Art, Science, and the
Superquiz. Way to go Oxnard!

This year, I am happy to announce
that there is NO Hall of Shame.
Okay, so as not to disappoint you all - I will create one:
Our Hall of Shame Award goes to
Matt Kim who scored 140 on Economics.... Yes... less than the
random statistical average. Come on Matt! How COULD YOU? You
were supposed to use our secret team technique: "A-C-A-D-E-C-A"
- which might have scored you a 200!) But other than the deep
and abiding sorrow I feel over Matt's Econ. scores, there's
nothing I could find to be ashamed of... (and even then - I am
proud of what Matt did on the rest!)
Still, since I am naturally
cynical and pessimistic, here's what I can dredge up from the
dark side...
OHS will probably not make it to state. This year CAD
(California Academic Decathlon) is accepting 11 division 1
schools for at-large bids. (We are division 1.) Though Lompoc
is not competing this year, there is an additional at-large bid
open. It will be opened up for a division 2 school (since their
district is division 2, so it makes sense), and not open to any
division 1 teams. That places the cut-off at 43,600 - though
our A-Team scored 43,076. On the other hand, if the at-large
bid for Lompoc had been thrown open for any division, our A-Team
would still be ineligible. We were just behind one of the teams
from Fresno that also got cut short.
BUT...
You know what? What we achieved is freakin' AWESOME! We ran
against Moorpark, national champions (albeit with their help)
and came in a solid second place across the board and scored the
highest in the history of our school and our district!!!!!
Not only that... we still came in
the top 20 in the state and the top 35 in the NATION!!!
State or no state - we ARE champs! WOOOOHOOOOO - Way to go
Team!!!!!
- B.
