Braque, Georges (1882-1963)

A French painter who is credited with originating the cubist style of painting, Georges Braque is known among the line of painters including Picasso, Matisse, and Cezanne. Through intense study of light, and changing to his use of contradictory shading, Braque refined his style continuously. His method of painting is additionally characterized by brilliant color and textured surfaces, as is seen in the paintings of Pablo Picasso, with whom Braque closely worked.
