Matisse (1869-1954)

A French artist, as well as the leader in the group of Fauvist painters, Henri Matisse was influenced by artists such as Gauguin, Cezanne, and van Gogh. Although he started a conservative naturalist painter, he quickly became much more extreme, a began painting with the radicalism for which he is known. He is most popularly known for his unparalleled talent for application of color in a painting, to express the most emotion possible.
